Welcome to BOI 2023, welcome to Maribor

This year’s BOI, which starts on the 29th of October, will feature 73 contestants from BOI association – Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia and Türkiye; and from 4 guest countries – Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland.

The opening ceremony will be held on the 30th of October at 5pm, while closing ceremony with the awarding of medals on the 2nd of November at 6pm, both on II. Gimnazija Maribor. Besides two competition days, each with 5 hours of programming, the contestants and their mentors will also have some time for socializing and getting to know each other. For example they will have a Maribor City Tour, Unlock Maribor and escape rooms and excursion to beautiful Škocjan caves.

The Association for technical culture of Slovenia (ZOTKS) is the main organizer of the Balkan Olympiad in Informatics 2023

The main organizer of the 30th Balkan Olympiad in Informatics – BOI 2023 in Maribor is The Association for technical culture of Slovenia (ZOTKS). It is a non-governmental and non-profit organization with over 75-year-long tradition of working with young adult population in the fields of science and technology. ZOTKS main programme aims to encourage young people to develop their creative and innovative potential, especially in the field of science and technology. Young people are involved in scientific research of technical and natural sciences through various forms of activities, ZOTKS’ team is experienced in addressing and encouraging young people to engage in various activities and provide their innovative proposals of solution to various problems in the society. Every year the above-mentioned activities attract over 60.000 children and young people as well as 5.000 scientists, teachers, tutors, and other experts.

As a main organizer, ZOTKS coordinates all the organizational activities of the BOI 2023. They are preparing the competition, organizing excursions, social events, providing and ensuring an accommodation and receptions for students and mentors. The professional part of the preparation of tasks is the responsibility of ZOTKS experts and external associates as well some experts from The Faculty of Computer and Information Science from University of Ljubljana and The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Maribor. The young students will compete at the II. gimnazija Maribor.

Maribor will host the Balkan Olympiad in Informatics 2023 (BOI 2023)

Between the 29th of October and the 3rd of November 2023, the city of Maribor will host the 30th Balkan Olympiad in Informatics (BOI 2023). BOI is a programming contest for high school students from countries around or close to the Balkan Peninsula. The event will feature around 70 contestants and around 40 mentors from 17 countries. Young students will compete at the II. gimnazija Maribor.
